Depending on the size of the site it could be anything from a few days to a few weeks. Once we have given you a quote for the work we can also give you a timescale for how long we think it will take.
For website page text we recommend working with web friendly fonts such as Verdana or Arial. This is because most browsers work with a list of web friendly fonts which are accessible on most browsers and computers. If you have a font on your website which is not available to most web browsers it could mean that your website defaults to a known font and is not viewed how you would like it to be. You can however have your own fonts or less well known fonts used in images on your site for example, in headers, banners or buttons as these are not read by browsers in the same was as plain text.
We will create your website as close to the web design as possible. However, there may be some minor layout differences on different computers due to the way that different web browsers interpret and display the website, the operating system the viewer is using and the monitor and screen resolution the site is being viewed at. We work to try and minimise this so that the website looks as consistant as possible across different web browsers and operating systems.
If we are building a static html website then we can upload the website for you to your hosting space. However, if you are using software such as a webpage editor, or our Purple Turtle Content Management System, then you will be able to make changes to content and products yourself and apply it to the website yourself, at any time of the day or night.
The size of your web pages will depend on the amount of information you have on your website. If your pages have a lot of images and other large file size content such as Flash movies, javascripts, video, RSS feeds, database content or other media then it could take a lot longer to download on slower internet connections. Most broadband connections will now download web pages 10 times faster than standard 56k modems. However as a lot of people are still using slower connections we recommend building sites that are accessible to all download speeds. We have found that many websites that use minimal content are just as effective, if not more than pages that have a lot of content. Take Amazon as an example.
Most sites will eventually get indexed by the main search engines such as Google. However, there are many ways that you can market your website a lot more quickly and reach a much bigger audience using web marketing for search engines, e-newsletters or paid for advertisements.We can help with this, see our web marketing page.
